Teachers out there, What is it you aim to accomplish from your career ? Is it social stance? Economical comfort? Self realization?
Whatever it is you’re aiming at, it might well be for your own good. Rare are those who, besides caring for themselves, might as well keep the other side of the teaching world before their eyes. By the other side I mean our teaching receivers. The minds we enrich every day with our education.
Our students should be at the heart of our goal behind walking through the door of learning premises. They trust us for who we are; teachers. “A teacher is an all knowing creature who never makes mistakes because they simply don’t.” That’s what most learners know us for. However, some of us unfortunately use that perception as a weapon against their own development. Doing so, they neglect the need for always acquiring more to give more.
Being trusted by our students never means staying where we’ve always been. Us being teachers doesn’t perish the need for learning. Learning is an infinite process that goes on end. We have not become teachers to impress our learners with what we know or what we have to offer. Rather, the most significant rationale of teaching is to improve our students abilities and thinking by developing ourselves. When we immerse in learning like our learners, we get to visualize their needs and realize the curiosity that we must endeavor to feed.
To all educators out there, never retreat from being taught once you’re the one by whom people are taught. Keep in mind, we’re not there to impress. We’re there to improve.
